Man City vs PSG ended Man City 2-4 PSG at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, with Paris Saint-Germain scoring three times before half-time and holding on despite an Erling Haaland double. Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha and Maghnes Akliouche scored for the visitors, who now have six points from their first two Champions League games.
For Enzo Maresca’s City, it was a painful night just days after a statement 3-0 win at Anfield. They were brilliant after the break, but the damage had already been done in a chaotic first half.

Man City vs PSG: How the Match Unfolded
Two goals in two minutes
City actually started brightly and carried an early threat. PSG then took over. In the 13th minute Doué beat Gianluigi Donnarumma from distance, and barely two minutes later Doué turned provider, crossing for Dembélé to head in at the back post.
The Etihad was stunned. PSG were cutting through City’s midfield with quick, short passing, and Achraf Hakimi hit the post just before the half-hour mark. A minute later it was 3-0, Vitinha finishing after a clever backheel from Warren Zaïre-Emery.
That scoreline at the break was historic in the wrong way for City. It was the first time they had trailed 3-0 at half-time in a home game since January 2012.
Maresca’s changes spark a fightback
Maresca made three changes at half-time, and one of them, Iliman Ndiaye, made an instant impact. Eight minutes after the restart, Ndiaye crossed and Haaland headed home to make it 3-1.
City were now pinning PSG back, but the champions of Europe struck again on the break. Akliouche’s shot just after the hour was parried by Donnarumma but still found its way in, a goal the City goalkeeper will want to forget.
Haaland pulled another back in the 75th minute and City threw everything forward. Nuno Mendes cleared one effort off the line and Safonov produced a sharp point-blank save to deny Haaland a hat-trick in the 83rd minute. PSG even failed to convert a late penalty, but by then the points were safe.
Talking Points
City dominated the numbers, PSG dominated the moments
City finished with 27 shots to PSG’s 15 and had slightly more of the ball. That tells you how one-sided the second half was. The problem was the opening 32 minutes, when PSG were clinical with almost every chance they created.
Haaland keeps scoring
Even in defeat, Haaland was the biggest threat on the pitch. Two goals and a string of near misses show he remains the man defenders fear most, and City will lean on him again this weekend.
PSG look like a team built to defend their crown
Luis Enrique’s side now have two wins from two after their opening 6-1 home win over Slovan Bratislava. Doué and Dembélé were outstanding, and Vitinha controlled the tempo from midfield. Their defending late on was shaky, though, and that is something future opponents will study.
