Which Premier League Clubs Have the Most Valuable Teenagers?

The Premier League’s teenage talent pool is drawing plenty of attention, following Max Dowman’s starring display for Arsenal and the news that 15 year old JJ Gabriel wants to leave Manchester United. Dowman, 16, scored twice in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup win over Ipswich, just hours after Gabriel’s request to cancel his registration at United became public. Using Transfermarkt valuations, here’s how every Premier League club’s teenage talent stacks up.

Manchester City Top the Rankings

Manchester City have the most valuable group of teenagers in the Premier League, worth a combined £122.6 million, narrowly ahead of Chelsea on £121 million and Arsenal in third on £102.4 million. Brighton sit fourth with £100.7 million, a reflection of the club’s consistent knack for identifying high potential young talent, putting them well clear of fifth placed Liverpool on £64.3 million.

Manchester United, who set the standard for developing young players during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, now rank sixth with a teenage value of just £48.1 million, suggesting the club is no longer viewed as a top destination for emerging talent. Hull sit just behind them in seventh, punching well above their weight. Ipswich have no teenagers currently assigned a Transfermarkt value at all, leaving them at the bottom of the table, while Newcastle and Everton also sit low in the rankings with teenage values of £9.9 million and £10.5 million respectively. Tottenham have the lowest teenage value of the traditional “big six” clubs, sitting 11th overall with a total of £23.1 million.

Bouaddi and Estevao Lead the Individual Rankings

Ayyoub Bouaddi, signed from Lille in August, accounts for more than half of Manchester City’s total teenage value on his own, carrying a Transfermarkt valuation of £68.6 million. The 18 year old midfielder shares top spot as the Premier League’s most valuable teenager alongside Chelsea winger Estevao. Brighton centre back Luka Vuskovic, who joined from Tottenham for £50 million in the summer, ranks next at £51.4 million.

Transfermarkt’s valuations are built from a combination of statistical performance, age, perceived future potential, real market activity and wider community input, rather than any single fixed formula.

Arsenal’s Value Is Spread More Widely

Unlike City and Chelsea, whose totals are dominated by one standout name each, Arsenal’s teenage value is spread across multiple players. Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman are valued at £38.6 million, £30 million and £25.7 million respectively, meaning Arsenal have three separate players among the league’s ten most valuable teenagers. Dowman, who became the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer at 16 years and 73 days last season, is currently the only 16 year old at any Premier League club to carry a Transfermarkt valuation at all.

Liverpool’s 18 year old winger Rio Ngumoha also features in the top ten, matching Dowman’s £25.7 million valuation, alongside Manchester United’s 19 year old Ayden Heaven and Aston Villa’s 18 year old Ibrahim Mbaye. The only other teenagers valued above £20 million are Brighton’s Charalampos Kostoulas, Fulham’s Josh King, Hull’s Christos Mouzakitis, Liverpool’s Giovanni Leoni and Sunderland’s Chris Rigg.

Arsenal’s Homegrown Advantage

While Bouaddi and Estevao make up the bulk of City’s and Chelsea’s teenage value through expensive signings from Lille and Palmeiras respectively, Arsenal appear to have a genuine edge when it comes to generating value from within their own academy. Alongside Lewis-Skelly, Dowman and the currently loaned out Nwaneri, all products of the club’s Hale End system, Arsenal also boast 17 year old defender Marli Salmon.

Salmon, who also impressed against Ipswich, carries a Transfermarkt value of £4.3 million, making him the third most valuable 17 year old in the entire Premier League, behind only Manchester City’s Jeremy Monga and Aston Villa’s Brian Madjo, both of whom were signed from other clubs this past summer. Among the league’s 20 most valuable teenagers overall, the only other academy graduates playing for the club that developed them are Fulham’s King, Sunderland’s Rigg and Tottenham winger Mikey Moore, currently out on loan at Koln. Notably, Ayden Heaven, who joined Manchester United from Arsenal last year, is also a Hale End graduate, further underlining the strength of Arsenal’s youth production line.

Merson: “Young Stars Need Patience”

Pundit Paul Merson stressed the importance of patience for both Dowman and Gabriel. On Dowman, he was full of praise for his composure and skill on the ball, highlighting his first goal against Ipswich as a genuinely special piece of individual play. Merson pointed out that Dowman finds himself at one of the best run clubs in the country, with potentially 15 years or more at the top level ahead of him, and said the challenge now is simply patience, difficult as that may be for a player who likely feels ready to be a regular starter already.

On Gabriel, Merson acknowledged the teenager’s obvious talent while suggesting the underlying issue likely sits more with those around him, including his representatives and family, though he was careful to note he was speaking only from the outside. He pointed to the example of Dowman and Ngumoha both being given genuine opportunities at their clubs as something that may be fuelling Gabriel’s own frustration and desire to play regularly straight away. Merson framed it as a broader theme of the modern game, where the sheer talent of today’s teenagers means many expect first team football far earlier than was ever realistic during his own playing career.
