Newcastle vs Aston Villa Prediction: Team News, Odds and Tips

Newcastle host Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Saturday 17 October 2026, with kick-off at 7.30pm EAT. Our Newcastle vs Aston Villa prediction leans towards goals at both ends: Newcastle have been leaky under Matthias Jaissle, while Villa arrive full of confidence after a 6-0 Champions League win but with tired legs and a growing injury list.

This is a big game for both clubs. Newcastle sit 11th and are still looking for consistency in their first months under a new head coach, while Unai Emery’s Villa have been excellent in Europe but sit 16th in the Premier League. Here is everything you need before placing a bet.

Newcastle Form: Two Heavy Defeats in Three League Games

Newcastle’s last outing was one to forget. They were beaten 4-1 at Coventry on Monday night, a result that left Jaissle apologising to the travelling supporters. We covered that match in full in our Coventry 4-1 Newcastle report.

The pattern is worrying for Newcastle fans. Two of their last three league games have ended in 4-1 defeats, at Leeds and at Coventry, and the only win in that spell was a narrow 2-1 home victory over promoted Hull. Jaissle took charge in the summer after Eddie Howe stepped down at the end of July, and he is still trying to build a defence that can hold its shape for 90 minutes.

Home support should help. St James’ Park remains one of the loudest grounds in England, and Newcastle have shown they can score goals. The problem is at the other end.

Newcastle Team News

Newcastle are without Elanga (hamstring), Jaouen (hamstring, expected to be out for around two months), Ramsey and Livramento. Ramsey and Livramento could return later this month, but this game comes too soon. Bazoumana Toure is a doubt after picking up a knee knock at Coventry and will be assessed before kick-off.

Aston Villa Form: Flying in Europe, Stuttering at Home

Villa’s season has two very different faces. In the Champions League they have won both of their matches, beating Club Brugge 3-2 away in September and then thrashing Fenerbahce 6-0 at Villa Park on Wednesday night. Jackson and Barkley both scored twice in that rout.

In the league, though, Emery’s side have only one win from six games, a 3-2 victory at Tottenham. They opened the season with a 4-0 defeat at Brighton and drew 2-2 with Brentford last weekend. That leaves them 16th with five points, which is well below where a Champions League side expects to be.

The key question is fatigue. Villa played on Wednesday night and now travel north for an early evening kick-off on Saturday, while Newcastle have had a full week to prepare after their Monday game.

Aston Villa Team News

Villa have a long list of absentees. Amadou Onana is out long term with a knee injury, Ruggeri is expected to miss more than a month with a thigh problem, and Maatsen (ankle) and Modou Cisse are also out. Barkley played 85 minutes against Fenerbahce while carrying discomfort and faces a late fitness test. Hemmings and Madjo are also doubts. Leon Goretzka returned as a substitute in midweek but is unlikely to start.

Head to Head

These sides have traded big results recently. Villa won 2-0 at St James’ Park in the Premier League in January 2026, but Newcastle got their revenge a month later with a 3-1 win at Villa Park in the FA Cup fourth round on 14 February 2026. That cup tie was the most recent meeting between the two clubs.

Newcastle vs Aston Villa Odds

Bookmakers have Newcastle as slight favourites. Typical prices are around 2.20 to 2.40 for a home win, 3.60 to 3.85 for the draw and 2.95 to 3.20 for an away win. The market also expects goals, with over 2.5 goals priced at around 1.57. Prices move, so check the latest odds on JetBet before you bet.

Newcastle vs Aston Villa Prediction

Picking a winner here is tough. Newcastle have home advantage and extra rest, but they have conceded four goals twice in their last three league games. Villa have quality in attack and plenty of confidence after Wednesday, yet their injury list and the short turnaround could catch up with them late in the game.

The angle that makes the most sense is goals at both ends. Both defences have been unreliable in the league, both attacks have shown they can hurt opponents, and the head-to-head record shows these teams tend to produce open games.

Our pick: Both teams to score (Yes). For a bigger price, consider over 2.5 goals as a second option.
