Bournemouth 3-0 Aston Villa was the most one-sided score of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth round, as the Cherries swept Unai Emery’s side aside at the Vitality Stadium. Amine Adli struck inside the first seven minutes, Lewis Cook doubled the lead early in the second half and Alvaro Rodriguez wrapped it up midway through the half.
The win books Bournemouth a quarter-final trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, while Villa suffer their first defeat in eight matches and exit the competition just days after beating Manchester City in the Premier League.

Fast Start From the Cherries
Bournemouth took control almost immediately. Julio Soler swung in a cross from the left, and Adli brought the ball under control before slotting home to give the hosts an early lead. Villa, who had made nine changes from the weekend win over City, looked flat in the opening stages and struggled to get a foothold.
The visitors did grow into the game. Emiliano Buendia had their best moment of the first half but sent his effort wide, and Leon Goretzka headed a free kick wide just before the interval when he really should have hit the target. Those misses would prove costly.
Bizot error doubles the lead
Early in the second half, Marco Bizot did well to tip a Juanlu Sanchez effort onto the crossbar, but the Villa goalkeeper was at fault moments later. Cook exchanged passes with Ben Gannon-Doak and sent a shot towards the near post that Bizot failed to deal with, and the ball crept in for 2-0.
Villa tried to respond by bringing on Alejandro Garnacho around the hour, and later Tammy Abraham and John McGinn, but Bournemouth never looked like losing control. On 69 minutes Tyler Adams found Rodriguez, who drilled a low finish into the corner. It was the forward’s first goal in English domestic football and it ended the contest.
Emery Frustrated by Slow Start
Emery admitted after the match that his side lacked intensity in the first 20 minutes and were not clinical enough when chances did come. He felt Villa created openings, but the third goal finished the tie, and he said the focus now turns quickly to the next challenge.
It is a disappointing end to a strong run. Villa came into the game on a seven-match unbeaten streak, including that eye-catching league win over City, which we covered in our Aston Villa 2-1 Man City report. With heavy rotation, the cup clearly took a back seat to their league campaign.
What It Means for Bournemouth
For Bournemouth, this caps a superb few days. The Cherries also beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, a result that has piled pressure on Michael Carrick. Two clean-sheet wins over big clubs inside four days show how well this team is playing, and the squad depth on show in midweek will please the coaching staff.
A quarter-final at Anfield is a tough draw, but Bournemouth will travel with real belief. If you backed the hosts after reading our Bournemouth vs Aston Villa prediction, this was a comfortable night.
